I shall put all of this under a cut. If you don't want to read, don't click the cut.
I'll start with Waters of Mars. That entire plot didn't make any sense to me. Oh, look, water will kill you and the entire population of Earth if I let you leave. The Doctor told Adalede that what happened on Mars was fixed. That he couldn't do anything to stop it. Just like he couldn't do anything to stop the destruction of Pompeii. However, unlike Pompeii, the people he went back and saved were in the history books as having died on Mars. He changed history. He went totally against his nature and his character and acted more like the Master than the Doctor. He only realized his mistake after Adalede went into the house and killed herself to make sure that her granddaughter's destiny was fulfilled.
The End of Time Part 1 was not all that great either. Don't get me wrong, I love Wilfred Mott and love that he got to be in this episode. However, the whole resurrection of the Master was ripped off of Harry Potter, and partly Indiana Jones. The Master's flying abilities were ripped off from Iron Man. The stupid subplot with the aliens hijacking the project was just that, stupid. And then there was the Master changing everyone into a copy of him. Come on! One of my friends said that was like a bad Eminem video.
One question I have is they mentioned the Fall of Torchwood. Was this Torchwood London or is this including what happened in Children of Earth? If it is, Jack's not on the planet, and there for not effected by the Master's little body swap or whatever. Supposedly Jack, Sarah Jane and Jackie, at least, are supposed to be on there next week. I'm still interested to see how Matt Smith handles the Doctor. I think he's a little better off than Christopher and David because RTD won't be involved.
Which brings me to RTD. I think he's either lost the plot or decided that since he was leaving Doctor Who as well he didn't give a crap what he did. So many elements of End of Time were ripped off from other sources. I have already said, in my take on Torchwood, that doing things just for the sake of drama do not make great stories. I think that's what he did with Waters of Mars and I think that's what he's doing with End of Time. Drama for the sake of Drama. Killing characters (which it looks like what's happening to Donna) to make things more dramatic doesn't work for me. (see my opinion of Ianto's fate)
We'll see what happens next week. I can't wait to see what happens when Stephen Moffat takes over. I think, given the quality of the episodes he has written, that we will be better off than RTD's reign.
