Top Gear in the United States

  I just read the announcement of who will be hosting the American verison of Top Gear when it premieres on NBC.  Adam Carolla, race car driver Tanner Foust and TV handyman Eric Stromer have been tapped to fill Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May's shoes.  I don't think this is going to work.  Adam Carolla is no Jeremy Clarkson.  In fact, I don't even think he's all that funny.  Eric Stormer was on Clean Sweap and would do stupid things like taste the paint.  He's cute but he's no Richard Hammond.  I don't know who Tanner Foust is but I'm sure he's no James May.  And what about The Stig?

Another problem is that NBC and the sponsers will goveren what the American verison of Top Gear says.  We can't offend Ford so you better give them a good review.  Cadallic just signed on as a sponser so give the new Escalade a good review.  That's going to take some of the bite out of Top Gear.

One of the things I love about Top Gear is the chemistry and friendship between the three presenters.  When Richard crashed, James and Jeremy dropped what they were doing and went to the hospital.  Jeremy wouldn't leave until Richard's wife promised him she would get some rest.  Somehow I don't see Adam Carolla doing that.

Oh and another thing, Top Gear doesn't care who they offend.  Or at least Jeremy doesn't. :-)  Sponsers and censors in the US will keep these three from actually speaking their minds.
